Hear Jackie Wilkinson in conversation with the Auckland Philharmonia's Principal Guest Conductor, Shiyeon Sung. Shiyeon is a real trailblazer of her profession: she was the first South Korean conductor ever to take the podium of internationally renowned orchestras.
When James Levine appointed her as his assistant at the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 2007, her reputation as one of the most exciting young talents on the international music scene already preceded her: shortly before, Shiyeon Sung had won the Solti and Mahler Conducting Competitions. Parallel to her residency in Boston, she began her collaboration with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. As principal conductor, she was able to lead the Gyeonggi Philharmonic to international success.
Following the interview, we will be treated to a performance from Auckland Philharmonia Woodwind duo, Camille Wells and Jonathan Cohen.
